PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS, NOVEMBER 2016
The months leading up to the November 2016 presidential elections has been confusing and dis-heartening. It seems to me that the major focus of mainstream media along with the Democratic and Republican national committees and convention delegates has been to see how much dirt and ugly name-calling can be publicized on each other. Some Christian church pastors have reported such activity has even invaded our congregations.
To make matters worse, in my opinion, has been the absence of information on the platform statements of the various parties with presidential candidates: Democratic, Green, Libertarian and Republican. A major question is which party platform is closest to promoting Christian principles? Another big question is which party platform promotes national sovereignty in line with historic American patriotism versus the growing one-world government movement?
My search for the answer to these two questions has led me to several sources. Two are discussed below.
The Cover Story in the October 2016 issue of Newsmax magazine is entitled, “A Nation Divided.” This article by author David A. Patten includes the sub-title, “In Trump vs. Clinton, voters face a stark choice between two distinct Americas” ( Page 45). The article includes brief statements 16 issues referred to as “Clinton vs. Trump on the Issues” (Pages 50-51). The brief issue statements are very useful, but omitted several key issues important to me as a Christian believer and patriotic American.
For example, we need to know where the leading party candidates and parties stand on abortion, gun control, Israel and same-sex marriage,
The Sep/Oct 2016 issue of Endtime magazine includes the article, “Donald Trump vs Hilary Clinton” by Dave Robbins (Pages 22-26). The article reports the candidate’s “own words” on 14 issues along with 56 references supporting candidate quotes. Below are some issue quotes and their references.
Abortion: “Trump: Pro-Life. ‘And I am very proud to say that I am pro-life.’ (Fox News 2015 GOP Primary Debate on Abortion. FoxNews/Facebook Two-Tier 2015 GOP Primary Debate. On the Issues, n.d. Web. 19 Aug. 2016.)” “Clinton Pro-Choice. ‘The unborn person doesn’t have constitutional rights.’ (CNSNewstaff. “Hilary Clinton: ‘The Unborn Person Doesn’t Have Constitutional Rights” CNS News. CNS News, 03 Apr. 2016. Web. 19 Aug. 2016.)”
Gun Control: “Trump: Pro-Gun. ‘This is about self-defense, plain and simple…It’s been said that the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom. That’s because the Right to Keep and Bear arms protects all our other rights.’ (Trump, Donald. “Second Amendment Rights.” Make America Great Again! Make America Great Again!, n.d. Web. 19 Aug. 2016.) https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/second-amendment-rights.” “Clinton: Anti-Gun. ‘I am here to tell you I will use every single minute of every day, if I am so fortunate enough to be your president, looking for ways that we can save lives, that we can change the gun culture.’ (Vespa, Matt. “Of Course Hilary Clinton Thinks ‘We Have Just Too Many Guns’ In This Country.” Townhall. Townhall, 23 Apr. 2016. Web. 19 Aug. 2016.)”
Two-State Solution: “Trump: Remains Neutral. ‘I love Israel. I’m very pro-Israel. I would love to see a deal made between Israel and the Palestinians…I want to remain as neutral as possible, because if you’re not somewhat neutral the other side is never going to do it’ (Trump, Donald. “DONALD J. TRUMP Issues.” Issues. Trump Campaign Website, n.d. Web. 19 Aug. 2016)” “Clinton: Advocates a Two-State Solution. ‘I happen to think that moving toward a two-state solution, trying to provide more support for the aspirations of the Palestinian people is in the long-term best interests of Israel, as well as the region, and, of course, the people themselves.’ (Benari, Elad. “Clinton: I’ll Defend Israel but Push for ‘two-state Solution'” – Middle East. Arutz. Sheva, 22 Feb. 2016. Web, 19 Aug. 2016.)”
Same-Sex Marriage: “Trump: Believes in Marriage Between One Man and One Woman. ‘…I’m for traditional marriage.’ (Elkin, Ali. “Donald Trump Responds to Hypothetical Gay Person Questioning His Three Marriages.” Bloomberg.com. Bloomberg, 28 June 2015. Web. 19 Aug. 2016.)” “Hilary: Supports Same-Sex Marriage. ‘I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law, embedded in a broader effort to advance equality and opportunity for LGBT Americans and all Americans.’ (Sherman, Amy. “None.” @politifact. N.p. 17 June 2015. Web.19 Aug. 2016.)”
